AUSTIN—TLRPAC today released the following statement regarding plaintiff trial lawyer candidate Justin Nelson’s campaign finance report:
“It’s no surprise that Justin Nelson would depend on his personal injury, class action and mass-tort trial lawyer colleagues to bankroll his campaign for attorney general. Nelson’s most recent campaign finance report shows that contributions from individuals at Nelson’s employer, plaintiff-law megafirm Susman Godfrey, comprised nearly 20 percent of the money he has raised. In total, Nelson has raked in about a quarter of his funds from plaintiff trial lawyers around the state.
“Texans deserve an attorney general who will fight for the rule of law and the interests of the state of Texas, not for the financial interests of the plaintiffs’ bar. Texas must not return to the era of jackpot justice, when plaintiff lawyers controlled all the levers of power in our state, causing businesses to shut their doors and doctors to flee the state.”
