Texas primary voters have spoken, overwhelmingly supporting strong tort reform candidates in the March primaries.

Overall, 35 TLRPAC candidates in contested races for state office won outright, and four are in runoffs. Based on these results, it’s clear tort reform and economic growth continue to be uniting issues for Republican primary voters. Fortunately, many well qualified legislative and judicial incumbents did not have primary opponents, though many of them will face challenges in the November election.

Principled incumbents carried the top of the ticket in the Republican primary, with Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick and Land Commissioner George P. Bush decisively winning their races.

In legislative races, 28 TLRPAC candidates in contested races won outright, and three are in run offs. This includes a Tarrant County House race in which a strong tort reform incumbent, Rep. Giovanni Capriglione (R-Southlake), won a resounding victory against a personal injury trial lawyer attempting to infiltrate the Texas Republican party.

There were several open legislative seats that brought out good candidates who will be tort reform-minded legislators. Some of those candidates won outright and others will be in runoffs in May. We’ll continue to keep you updated on our efforts in those races so that you can participate in the upcoming runoff elections in your area.
