Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC recently announced its endorsement of Tom Mechler as State Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.
TLR has been working for over twenty years to help elect principled conservative statewide officeholders, lawmakers and judges who fight to keep our economy strong and our civil justice system fair and balanced.
We support candidates for statewide office and the Legislature who stand up to personal injury trial lawyers and their job-killing agenda. On the other side, personal injury trial lawyers are the top contributors to liberal candidates in Texas. Nationally, they are generous funders of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.
Mechler’s opponent for State Chairman is Jared Woodfill, a personal injury trial lawyer. While there are many reasons to oppose the election of Woodfill as State GOP Chairman, at TLRPAC we are primarily concerned with his record as a trial lawyer and his allegiance to his trial lawyer allies.
• Last year, Woodfill was the spokesman for a group that backed Democrat trial lawyer Ben Hall for mayor of Houston over a Republican candidate.
• Woodfill took contributions from Texas Family Values PAC, a trial lawyer front group that uses its phony conservative-sounding name to try to fool Republicans.
• Woodfill sued a Texas railroad in a meritless personal injury lawsuit that would have netted him tens of millions of dollars. He lost the case and owed a New York lawsuit lender $30 million dollars. [1]
We believe the Republican Party of Texas must have a leader it can count on to fight for conservative principles – including lawsuit reform – and make defeating trial-lawyer-funded liberals a top priority. That is why TLRPAC supports the re-election of RPT Chairman Tom Mechler.
