(Houston, TX) – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC issued the following statement today announcing its endorsement of the re-election of Justice David J. Schenck for Fifth Court of Appeals:
Justice David J. Schenck is a principled, conservative jurist who rules based on the Constitution and the plain words of Texas law. He is a skilled and experienced legal thinker who has served with distinction on the Fifth Court of Appeals. TLRPAC is proud to endorse his re-election.
Justice Schenck was appointed to the Fifth Court of Appeals in January 2015 by Governor Rick Perry. He is a former Deputy Attorney General in the office of Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. He was a law clerk to Chief Judge Henry Politz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and has been a partner in several national law firms.
Justice Schenck’s opponent, David Hanschen, is not a Republican or a conservative. Hanschen was elected as a Democrat to a district court bench in 2006, but lost his re-election bid in the Democratic primary in 2010. He ran losing races in the Democrat primary in 2012 and again in 2014. Hanschen frequently attacks both national and Texas Republicans on the Internet, using strident, personal, and sometimes inappropriate language.
TLRPAC is the political arm of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the state’s largest civil justice reform organization. TLR is a bipartisan, volunteer-led coalition with more than 18,000 supporters residing in 869 Texas communities and representing 1,266 different businesses, professions and trades.
