AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Michael Ritter of San Antonio for Place 3 on the 4th Court of Appeals, which covers 32 counties located in South Texas and the Hill Country, including Bexar County.
“Texas judges make critical decisions every day that impact our families and our freedoms, particularly on our intermediate appellate courts, which are often the last stop for some of the most consequential decisions affecting our state,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Michael Ritter’s appellate experience, both in private practice and as a staff attorney on the 4th Court of Appeals, make him uniquely qualified to hold the bench. Ritter is senior counsel at Schmoyer Reinhard LLP where he specializes in appellate work related to labor and employment disputes. His prior appellate experience includes appeals and mandamus proceedings involving employment law, commercial litigation, personal injury, family law, criminal law and lawsuits involving governmental entities.
Prior to joining the firm, Ritter served for seven years as a staff attorney for the 4th Court of Appeals, where he drafted opinions for and advised the chief justice and six associate justices, and served as a chambers attorney for Justice Luz-Elena Chapa. In 2018, Ritter became the first appellate staff attorney to be board certified in both civil and criminal appeals. He is also a former assistant attorney general in the Texas Attorney General’s Office, representing state agencies in federal and state lawsuits alleging employment discrimination, tort claims and section 1983 claims.
Ritter received a bachelor’s degree from Trinity University and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. He served on the Texas Law Review, Review of Litigation and American Bar Association Moot Court team, and published notes in five different law journals by the time he graduated.
