TLRPAC Endorses Judge Ysmael Fonseca for 13th Court of Appeals

AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Judge Ysmael Fonseca for Place 4 on the 13th Court of Appeals, which serves the Corpus Christi and Edinburg areas.

“Texas judges make critical decisions every day that impact our families and our freedoms, particularly on our intermediate appellate courts, which are often the last stop for some of the most consequential decisions affecting our state,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Judge Fonseca has devoted his adult life to public service, particularly to helping the most vulnerable in our communities access justice. He is committed to protecting the rule of law and never legislating from the bench. TLRPAC is proud to endorse him.”

Judge Fonseca is judge of the 476th District Court of Hidalgo County, and former judge of the 464th District Court of Hidalgo County. He was previously an attorney at Guerra and Sabo PLLC (formerly Guerra, Leeds, Sabo and Hernandez PLLC) where he specialized in civil defense, municipal law and small business and non-profit representation. He also previously served as a law clerk for Judge Randy Crane of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Prior to attending law school, Judge Fonseca was a paralegal specialist for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., assisting in the prosecution of civil rights cases, with a particular focus on human trafficking offenses. He also worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in McAllen and with Senator John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

Judge Fonseca received a bachelor’s degree with honors and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was note editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics and Public Policy and a student lawyer at the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic, representing indigent clients in small estate, guardianship and other probate matters.

TLRPAC is the political arm of Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR), the largest civil justice reform organization in Texas. TLR is a bipartisan, volunteer-led coalition with 16,300 supporters residing in more than 900 Texas communities and representing 1,255 different businesses, professions and trades.
