TLRPAC Endorses Former Judge Maritza Michelle Antú for 14th Court of Appeals

AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Maritza Antú of Houston for Place 5 on the 14th Court of Appeals, which covers Harris County and nine surrounding counties.

“Texas judges make critical decisions every day that impact our families and our freedoms, particularly on our intermediate appellate courts, which are often the last stop for some of the most consequential decisions affecting our state,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Maritza Antú is a committed public servant and experienced jurist and attorney with proven results on the bench. Her background and experience as a judge, attorney in private practice and an assistant district attorney will be a critical asset for the 14th Court. TLRPAC is proud to support her.”

Antú is managing partner of The Antú Law Firm PLLC, where she provides bilingual indigent defense services focused on helping nonviolent offenders struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues reintegrate into society. She was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott as judge of the 482nd District Court in Harris County, where she was responsible for cutting the court’s docket backlog by nearly 60 percent. In her time on the bench, she had the lowest trial docket in the courthouse, one of the highest disposition rates, and one of the lowest jail populations of 23 district courts. Antú prioritized efficiency in her courtroom while always considering the safety of the community.

Prior to entering private practice, Antú served as assistant district attorney in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for 11 years, including serving as chief prosecutor for the Governmental Affairs Bureau Public Integrity Division, the 178th District Court Felony Trial Bureau and the Probable Cause Court of the Public Service Bureau. She tried more than 75 cases to a jury and handled hundreds of additional criminal cases of all kinds, including securing more than 20 convictions against child abusers.

Antú received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
