AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Emily Miskel of McKinney for reelection to Place 13 on the 5th Court of Appeals, which covers Collin, Dallas, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties.
“Texas judges make critical decisions every day that impact our families and our freedoms, particularly on our intermediate appellate courts, which are often the last stop for some of the most consequential decisions affecting our state,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Emily Miskel’s private sector experience and strong background as a district and appellate court judge are important assets to the 5th Court. She understands the unique technological challenges faced by our legal system, and will be a strong voice in ensuring the secure and efficient modernization of our courts. Miskel was appointed to the 5th Court of Appeals by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022. Prior to this, she served as judge of the 470th District Court of Collin County for seven years. During the pandemic, she served as the Local Administrative District Judge of Collin County, keeping courts open safely and holding the first virtual bench trial in Texas and first virtual jury trial in the world. Prior to her legal career, Miskel was an oil and gas project engineer.
Miskel is civil justice chair of the Texas Judicial Council, the policy-making body for the state judiciary, and a member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee. She has been a member of the State Bar of Texas Pattern Jury Charge Oversight Committee and Computer and Technology Law Council. Miskel received the National Center for State Courts William H. Rehnquist Award for Judicial Excellence in 2020. She frequently speaks on legal technology topics such as electronic evidence, e-discovery, data theft, interception of communications and online impersonation.
Miskel received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. She is double board certified in Family Law and Child Welfare Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
