TLRPAC Endorses Brett Busby for Texas Supreme Court

TLRPAC Endorses Brett Busby for Texas Supreme Court

AUSTIN—Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Justice Brett Busby for reelection to Place 8 on the Texas Supreme Court.

“Each election cycle, TLRPAC supports judicial candidates, like Justice Brett Busby, who understand the importance of ensuring all Texans have access to a fair and efficient legal system,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Justice Busby has served our state with integrity, steadfastly focusing on upholding the rule of law and not legislating from the bench. His broad legal experience—in private practice, in the classroom and on the bench—are important assets to our state’s high court. TLRPAC is proud to support him in his reelection.”

Prior to his appointment to the Texas Supreme Court, Busby served for six years as a justice on Texas’ 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, where he earned the respect of the attorneys who appeared before his court, receiving 75 percent of the vote in the Houston Bar Association’s 2018 Judicial Preference Poll.

Busby received a bachelor’s degree in public policy studies with high honors from Duke University and a law degree from Columbia Law School. Following law school, Busby worked as a law clerk for Judge Gerald Bard Tjoflat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and as a law clerk for two U.S. Supreme Court justices.

Busby is an adjunct professor at The University of Texas Law School and a former partner in the appellate group at Bracewell LLP. In private practice, he gained substantial experience representing parties in complex commercial disputes before the U.S. and Texas Supreme Courts, expertise that is invaluable now in his role as a justice on the state’s highest civil court.
