AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Judge Ernest “Ernie” Aliseda of McAllen in his campaign for chief justice of the 13th Court of Appeals.

“Each election cycle, TLRPAC supports judicial candidates who understand the importance of a fair, efficient and honest legal system to Texas families and businesses,” TLRPAC Chairman Richard J. Trabulsi Jr. said. “Ernie Aliseda is an experienced and principled judge and longtime public servant who is committed to upholding the rule of law, and we are confident he is the best candidate to lead the 13th Court of Appeals as chief justice.”

Aliseda has more than 17 years of judicial experience, is a member of the national law firm Dykema Cox Smith and serves as a municipal court judge for the City of McAllen. He was appointed as judge to the 398th State District Court by Gov. George W. Bush and to the 139th State District Court by Gov. Rick Perry. He is currently a member of the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

Aliseda is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves Judge Advocate General Corps, where he serves as a military judge. He was called to active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008 and 2009, serving as chief of federal litigation for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate of the Army XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was assigned as a special assistant U.S. attorney in charge of all prosecutors who tried military personnel and civilians for felony and misdemeanor offenses in North Carolina federal courts.

The 13th Court of Appeals covers 20 counties: Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Cameron, De Witt, Goliad, Gonzales, Hidalgo, Jackson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Live Oak, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, Wharton and Willacy. The court hears appeals in both civil and criminal cases from those counties and maintains offices in Corpus Christi and Edinburg. The chief justice position is currently held by Rogelio Valdez, who is not seeking re-election.
