AUSTIN—Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) and its sister organization, Judicial Fairness PAC (JFPAC), closed out the 2024 election cycle with decisive victories for every TLRPAC- and JFPAC-supported candidate, including 26 rule-of-law judges on five intermediate appellate courts across the state.
“Texas voters have spoken—they want rule-of-law judges who deliver justice quickly and fairly and don’t legislate from the bench,” TLR Chairman Dick Weekley said. “As the leading advocate for fair and experienced judges, JFPAC is proud of its work to ensure Texas voters understand the importance of electing competent judges across the state.”
Competent, rule-of-law judges on the intermediate appellate courts are critical to the integrity of our judicial system, our public safety and the continued vitality of our economy.
Over the past six years, many Texas trial courts have eroded public safety and refused to follow the civil justice reforms enacted by the Legislature. This has allowed violent criminals back into our communities, putting Texans in danger, and made our state a national leader in nuclear jury verdicts. The largest of these verdicts occurred in 2022, when a Dallas jury awarded $7.375 billion in a wrongful death case. Three other verdicts have exceeded $500 million, and 19 have exceeded $100 million.
Rather than simply rubber stamp errant trial court decisions, the appellate courts can significantly improve how the trial courts conduct themselves on both criminal and civil dockets.
“Additionally, TLRPAC is proud of its work to elect legislators who will fight unfair job-killing nuclear verdicts whenever and wherever they occur,” Weekley said. “With principled legislators at the helm in both the House and the Senate, we are confident 2025 will be a strong session for common-sense reforms that will keep Texas the best state in which to live, work, raise a family and start a business.”
Every TLRPAC-supported legislative candidate won election in the House and Senate. In the eight most contested House races this November, TLRPAC was the largest contributor—by far—to the winning candidates.
