AUSTIN—Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC (TLRPAC) today endorsed Justice Jane Bland for reelection to Place 6 on the Texas Supreme Court.
“With more than 20 years on the bench, Justice Bland’s extensive experience as a judge and deep respect among the legal community make her a critical asset to the Texas Supreme Court,” TLRPAC General Counsel Lee Parsley said. “Throughout her long-running public service, she has focused on upholding our laws as-written, understanding that a judge’s role is different than that of a lawmaker, and ensuring all Texans have access to a fair and efficient legal system. TLRPAC is proud to support her reelection to the Texas Supreme Court.”
Before her appointment to the Texas Supreme Court by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2019, Bland served as a justice on Texas’ First Court of Appeals in Houston for 15 years and as district judge of the 281st Judicial District in Harris County for six years. She ranked first in the 2018 State Bar Judicial Preference Poll and the 2018 Houston Bar Association Judicial Preference Poll among all judges. She also received the highest number of “well-qualified” votes on the First Court of Appeals since joining it in 2003. Prior to her service on the bench, she was an attorney at Baker Botts LLP and clerked for Judge Thomas Gibbs Gee on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Bland received bachelor’s degrees in accounting and honors business and a law degree from The University of Texas at Austin, where she served as an editor of the Texas Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. She has received the prestigious William H. Rehnquist Award, which is conferred annually by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to the state court judge who “exemplifies the highest level of judicial excellence, integrity, fairness and professional ethics.” The Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists twice named Bland the Appellate Judge of the Year and Trial Judge of the Year on another occasion.
