When it comes to choosing leadership, Texans continue to support strong, reform-minded candidates who understand why a fair legal system is important to our state.

A statewide poll of likely November voters conducted by Baselice and Associates May 21 – 28, 2018, found that U.S. Senator Ted Cruz led Beto O’Rourke 48 percent to 36 percent, and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton led challenger Justin Nelson 45 percent to 33 percent. Gov. Greg Abbott has a strong 55 percent positive rating among likely voters, giving him more than a two to one ratio of positive to negative opinion.

Further, a generic ballot of Republican judicial candidates vs. Democrat judicial candidates for state courts of appeals showed Republicans being preferred by 47 percent to 38 percent.

Importantly, Independent voters are weighing in for reform-minded candidates over those who support the agenda of personal injury trial lawyers. Among Independent voters, 31 percent of those polled indicated support for General Paxton compared to Nelson’s 23 percent. Additionally, Republican appellate court candidates fared better than their Democrat challengers among key independent voters, scoring about seven percent more support among both male and female Independent voters, as well as those younger and older than 55.

Principled leadership has helped our state become the strongest economy in the nation, and tort reform is essential to that economic foundation. Time and again, Texas voters have supported those common-sense principles and the leadership that enacts them.
